V-Ups

Description:

V-Ups are dynamic core exercises that effectively strengthens the core.  This exercise continues to be a favorite for many gymnasts due to its multi-functionality, activating the lower and upper abdominals, and also emphasizing flexibility in the pike position.  In order to maximize the benefits of this exercise, continue to develop flexibility in the pike sit.  Ensure that correct form is utilized as improper technique may place unwanted stress on the lower back.

 

Process:

  • lie on back with arms extended overhead
  • palms should face the ceiling and back of hands touching the floor
  • legs should be together and core engaged
  • engage core muscles and bend at the hips to lift both upper body and lower body off the ground
  • allow hands to tap toes at the pinnacle
  • open up hip angle to lower to starting position
