Straight Arm Ring Press Out (Maltese Press)

Description:

Straight Arm Ring Press Out is an advanced exercise that builds upper body strength, specifically in the lats and pectoral region.  In order to reduce the risk of injury, ensure that proper posture is maintained and that the lower back does not sag.  Perform this exercise on a set of low rings – otherwise utilize a block to make sure that the feet are at the same height of the rings.  To scale, perform alternating one arm ring pushups.

 

Process:

  • begin in a pushup position on a set of low rings
  • ensure that shoulders are stacked over the elbows and hands
  • engage core and round small of the back
  • slowly lower body by extending both arms outwards, maintaining downward pressure the entire time and ensuring that the back does not sag
  • close the angle between the arms and chest to pull the rings back beneath you by activating the pecs and lats
