Standing Neck Stretch

Description:

While it is easy to remember to stretch the major areas of the body, it is often easy to forget and neglect stretching the neck – the main structure that supports the head and the cervical spine.  Maintaining proper neck mobility becomes even more important when performing dynamic movements that require you to stabilize your head.  A Standing Neck Stretch is easy to incorporate in any stretch/warm up routine.

Process:

  • begin in a stand
  • drop your head towards one shoulder
  • use one arm to slowly assist with pulling the head down towards the same shoulder to feel a stretch in the side of the neck (switch sides)
  • drop your head down front and use both hands to slowly pull your head down for a stretch in the back of the neck
