Pike Stretch

Description:

A pike stretch is a stretch that emphasizes flexibility in the hamstrings and glutes.  In order to increase or decrease the amount of stretch felt, play with pointing or flexing your toes while folding your torso down to your lower body.  Hamstring and glute mobility is integral when performing various exercises and can even improve actions required for daily life.  Flexibility in this region becomes even more important as you begin to attempt higher level gymnastics and strength skills.

 

Process:

  • sit down with leg together
  • keep legs straight out
  • straighten back and reach forward
  • lean forward and stretch out as far as possible while maintaining posture
