Straddled Planche on Floor

Description:

A Straddled Planche is a static hold position that is as much a strength element as a balance element.  For best results, straddle the legs as wide as possible so that the weight of the legs are shifted towards your center of mass.  Additionally, you should utilize your body as a lever and lean the body forward until you feel the optimal balance point.  Finding this point and strengthening this position is the key to learning this skill.  Finally, a tucked planche should be mastered before advancing to this position.

Process:

  • begin in a squat position on the floor
  • hands should be shoulder width apart with arms locked out
  • engage core and push off toes to lift feet off ground
  • extend hip angle while maintaining a straddled position
  • lean forward to find the optimal balance point and hold
