Support Hold on Parallel Bars

Description:

Many elements performed on the parallel bars stem from a standard Support Hold.  For example, a simple skill such as an L-hold, to much more complex skills such as a handstand is considered a variation of a support hold.  While at first glance, a standard support hold may look monotonous, this is an effective exercise that develops solid upper body and core strength if performed with correct form.  For best results, ensure that the arms stay locked and that constant downward pressure is maintained over the bars.

Process:

  • begin in a support position on parallel bars or two solid even level blocks
  • ensure that body is completely tight and arms extended
  • legs should be extended and back should remain straight to ensure vertical alignment
  • push down against the bars and maintain constant downward pressure
